The origins of the SUNY FACT2 (formerly FACT - Faculty Access to Computing Technology) program can be traced to a meeting of the Computer Officers Association (COA) Academic Subcommittee in 1986. For some time, members had felt the need to provide computing access to faculty and instructional support professionals.

Every facet of society, and every scholarly discipline, had been affected by the pervasive infusion of computers. For SUNY to continue educational leadership in service to the citizens and institutions, both public and private, of the State of New York, faculty needed maximum access to computing.

An ad-hoc committee was formed to detail COA's concerns to the Provost. After working with the ad-hoc committee for a time, the Provost responded by creating an Advisory Council in the spring of 1989.

FACT2 currently operates with the support of the Provost and SUNY Center for Professional Development. Despite continuing tight budgets, the current SUNY leadership continues to provide funding to support FACT2 Advisory Council's proposals.

There is still more work to be done to ensure appropriate computing access, equipment, and development and training for all of SUNY's faculty and instructional support professionals. FACT2 Council members are grateful for the support they receive and will continue to maximize their efforts and the funds they receive.
